The State government has established a committee to oversee CCTV surveillance across various sectors, aiming to enhance public safety and ensure better management of surveillance systems. The committee, chaired by the Principal Secretary of the Department of Real-Time Governance (RTG), includes a wide range of senior officials, such as Principal Secretaries of departments like Home, ITE&C, and TR&B, along with district collectors and law enforcement officers. The CEO of RTG will serve as the member-convener.
The committee is tasked with several key responsibilities, including the installation, maintenance, and improvement of CCTV cameras statewide. It will also develop protocols for data access, footage review, and privacy protection, ensuring compliance with ethical standards. A crucial part of its work involves integrating privately-owned CCTV systems into the State’s surveillance framework and formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for government-owned systems managed by different departments.
Additionally, the committee is expected to identify new use cases for CCTV deployment and recommend strategies for optimising surveillance operations. This integrated approach is designed to create a cohesive and effective security network across the State, addressing safety concerns and leveraging technology for improved governance.
