The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has recently concluded a week-long cyber awareness campaign aimed at equipping senior citizens across the state with crucial skills to guard against online scams and cyber threats. This initiative, facilitated by TGCSB’s District Coordination Cells, engaged senior citizens in various communities statewide, providing them with practical knowledge to recognise and respond to cyber threats.
During the campaign, 30 senior citizens from various associations within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area participated in focused workshops. These sessions were designed to help participants identify common scams, protect their personal information, and understand emerging cyber threats, such as digital arrest scams, trading and investment fraud, and emergency deception scams. To aid in long-term retention, TGCSB launched a series of videos and posters tailored to enhance cyber awareness specifically for senior citizens.
To extend the campaign’s impact, TGCSB has created WhatsApp groups for senior citizen associations across Telangana. With more than 2,000 members enrolled, these groups will serve as dedicated channels for sharing ongoing information about trending cybercrimes, safety practices, and new cyber awareness campaigns. “Through these groups, we aim to keep seniors updated on the latest scams and empower them with knowledge to stay safe online,” an official explained.
By combining in-person education with ongoing digital support, TGCSB’s initiative represents a sustained effort to protect senior citizens and create a safer online environment across Telangana.
