The US embassy has urged Americans in Pakistan to adhere to official travel advisories, emphasising the need for vigilance in the region
The US mission in Pakistan has issued a security alert, urging American citizens to avoid the Serena Hotel in Peshawar and its surrounding areas, including the Peshawar Golf Club, until December 16. The advisory, prompted by unspecified security concerns, directs US mission personnel to avoid the location and advises US nationals to reconsider travel plans to the region. It reiterates the existing “Do Not Travel” advisory for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province due to persistent terrorism threats.
The alert comes at a time of heightened tensions in KP, where sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia tribes continues to claim lives. On Tuesday, clashes in the Kurram district, near the Afghan border, resulted in at least 10 more deaths and 21 injuries, despite a ceasefire brokered between the warring Alizai and Bagan tribes.
Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, Javedullah Mehsud, reported that over the past week, the violence has left 100 people dead and 180 injured. He stated that all parties involved in the clashes would begin vacating their positions on Thursday, with police and army personnel remaining deployed to maintain order.
The ongoing violence erupted last Friday following an attack on a convoy of passenger vans near Parachinar, where 47 people were killed. Since then, at least 37 more have died in tribal violence, with several others wounded. While a seven-day ceasefire was agreed upon on Sunday after negotiations between provincial government officials and community elders, tensions remain high, and no group has claimed responsibility for the initial convoy attack.

As the situation unfolds, the US mission’s guidance underscores the broader security concerns in KP, a region frequently targeted by militant activities. The embassy’s continued calls for caution reflect the volatile environment, as the Pakistani authorities work to contain the violence and restore stability in the affected areas.
