Airports of Thailand (AOT) has implemented a state-of-the-art biometric identification system at six major airports to enhance travel efficiency. Launched on December 1, 2024, the system aims to simplify the check-in process and expedite security screenings for both domestic and international passengers by eliminating repeated identity checks.
The six airports equipped with this technology are Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Hat Yai. The biometric system integrates with AOT’s existing passenger processing platforms, including CUTE (Common Use Terminal Equipment), CUSS (Common Use Self-Service), CUBD (automated baggage drop), PVS (Passenger Validation System), and SBG (Self-Boarding Gate).
How It Works
Passengers can enrol in the biometric system through two convenient methods:
Self-check-In kiosks
Passengers select a kiosk, choose their airline, and opt for ‘Enrollment.’
They then scan their boarding pass barcode, insert their passport or ID card, and complete a facial scan.
The system securely stores the scanned facial data and travel information as a Token.
Check-in counters
At counters, passengers can request airline staff to register their biometric data.
The staff uses the CUTE boarding pass reader to capture facial scans and travel document information, storing them securely as a Token.
Once enrolled, passengers’ facial biometrics are securely stored, allowing seamless transitions through baggage drops, security checkpoints, and boarding gates without the need for repeated identity checks. However, passengers must repeat the registration process for future journeys.
