The ecosystem — SAMBHAV (Secure Army Mobile Bharat Version) — operates on the state-of-the-art contemporary 5G technology and will represent a “significant leap forward in India’s defence capability”, a senior official said
The Indian Army has proudly introduced SAMBHAV, its very own secure mobile ecosystem, aligned with the spirit of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ or self-reliant India. SAMBHAV, short for Secure Army Mobile Bharat Version, boasts a state-of-the-art 5G technology, representing a major advancement in India’s defence capabilities.
Developed in collaboration with academic and industrial experts, SAMBHAV addresses the vulnerability of mobile networks to eavesdropping, ensuring the security of sensitive information. This end-to-end secure mobile ecosystem is designed to offer instant and secure communication while on the move. It leverages the capabilities of indigenous public cellular networks and features 5G-ready handsets with multi-tier encryption.
“Significant leap forward in India’s defence capability”, a senior official said.
“It has been developed in close collaboration with national centres of excellence from the academia and industry. “Mobile networks are prone to eavesdropping and therefore information security of mobiles is at risk of being compromised. An end-to-end secure mobile ecosystem which is network-agnostic has been developed to provide secure communication with instant connectivity on the move,” the official said.
The initiative is in line with the government’s push for dual-use infrastructure and highlights the synergy between civilian and military applications in emerging technology. In terms of deployment, 35,000 sets are set to be configured in two phases, with the first 2,500 sets ready by January 15, and the rest by May 31.
SAMBHAV’s indigenously developed applications and operating system mark a significant step towards a self-reliant India. The ecosystem ensures a pan-India secure environment with multi-layered encryption, operating on a commercial network with built-in security measures. Additionally, as part of its ongoing transformation, the Indian Army is gearing up to achieve significant capabilities in cyberspace.
In essence, SAMBHAV is not just a mobile ecosystem; it’s a symbol of India’s commitment to self-reliance and technological advancement in the defence sector. With its secure communication features and integration with cutting-edge technology, SAMBHAV stands as a testament to India’s progress in the field of defence and cybersecurity.
