Lucknow Introduces Paid Police Security For Private Events Starting From Monday

The Lucknow police commissioner has issued a comprehensive circular to standardise the rates for police security provided at private functions

Starting this Monday, security arrangements in Lucknow will now come with a price tag attached. Whether it’s a wedding, a social gathering, or any private event, individuals seeking police security for their occasions will need to allocate funds, as Lucknow police have initiated a fee structure for security services.

Previously, certain events received security coverage free of charge, while others incurred fees. However, to streamline the process, all private events, except government functions, will now fall under the purview of paid security arrangements.

The Lucknow police commissioner has issued a comprehensive circular to standardise the rates for police security provided at private functions. According to a statement released by the Lucknow police, the fee will generally amount to one day’s average salary for all deployed police personnel. For events spanning multiple days, organisers will be charged accordingly.

“This payment will be determined by the officer ordering the police force, and a copy of the bill will be sent to the Digital and Counter Inspector,” the statement clarified.

With Lucknow witnessing rapid development and an increase in facilities, the number of private events has surged in recent years. Upendra Kumar Agarwal, joint commissioner of police (law and order), emphasized the necessity of charging for police security at private functions, citing existing regulations and government orders that prescribe fees for such services.

“While police arrangements can be facilitated for private events, it’s imperative to collect payment for these services,” Agarwal stated. “The Police Regulation/Police Act and various government orders mandate fees for police forces provided at private events, as outlined mainly in Para 199 of the Police Regulation.”

Under the new directive, if event organizers opt not to request police personnel and instead employ private security agencies, the police will ensure general security measures necessary to maintain law and order in the area. This provision extends to civil, traffic, and armed police forces.
