“The presence of flammable materials and electrical equipment in malls makes them particularly vulnerable to fire hazards,” explained a fire safety consultant. “Therefore, implementing stringent fire safety protocols, including automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and regular safety drills, is crucial to ensure the safety of both visitors and staff.”
The cause of the fire at Reliance Mall is currently under investigation. Authorities are exploring potential factors such as electrical faults, improper waste disposal, or other triggers that may have ignited the blaze. The fire at Reliance Mall in Moti Khavdi, situated within the Jamnagar Refinery Township in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district, led to the evacuation of at least 50 people on Thursday night. The fire, which nearly gutted the mall, was finally extinguished by 4 am Friday, approximately six hours after it was initially reported.
According to sources in the Jamnagar fire department, the mall was closed when the fire broke out. “There was a traffic jam on Jamnagar Highway in Jamkhambhaliya for 1-2 km as the mall is near the highway. The situation was controlled by 1 am, but the cooling and ventilation process continued until 4 am,” a source revealed.
A spokesperson from Reliance Industries confirmed the fire, stating, “The cause of the fire will be investigated. No lives have been lost or injuries reported. Jamnagar district authorities and the fire department, along with RIL’s fire tenders, rushed to the site and are bringing the fire under control.”
Situated at the entrance of the township, the Reliance Mall is the sole shopping destination in the area, featuring a two-storey layout with amenities such as a movie theatre, a game zone, cafes, and various retail outlets, according to police sources.
