Rajnath Singh Urges Vigilance Against Security Challenges At Mhow Cantonment

Singh underlined the military’s pivotal role in India’s vision of becoming a developed and self-reliant nation by 2047

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday emphasised the need for constant vigilance against internal and external threats, citing India’s complex security challenges. Addressing army personnel at the historic Mhow cantonment in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, the minister highlighted the strategic importance of being prepared in the face of continuous challenges along the nation’s northern and western borders.

“India is not a very lucky nation in terms of security,” Singh remarked, referring to the persistent challenges posed by neighbouring regions. “Our northern border and western border continuously face challenges. We also face challenges on the internal front,” he added.

The Defence Minister urged the armed forces to remain alert and proactive, acknowledging the critical role they play in safeguarding the nation. “In these circumstances, we must keep a close eye on the activities of our enemies, whether internal or external, and take appropriate and timely effective steps against them,” he said.

Crucial Role Of Armed Forces In Nation-Building

Singh underlined the military’s pivotal role in India’s vision of becoming a developed and self-reliant nation by 2047. “As the country’s Defence Minister, I would like to tell you that we should always be alert. Your discipline and dedication during training demonstrate that even peacetime is a period of rigorous preparation, akin to a war regimen,” he told the soldiers.

The Mhow cantonment, located 25 km from Indore, is home to prestigious military institutions such as the Army War College, the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, and the Infantry School. It also houses the Infantry Museum and the Army Marksmanship Unit, which play a vital role in honing the skills of military personnel.

Tribute To Dr BR Ambedkar

Earlier in the day, Singh, accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, paid floral tributes at the memorial of Dr BR Ambedkar in the Kali Paltan area of Mhow cantonment. Dr Ambedkar, the principal architect of India’s Constitution, was born in Mhow, and his memorial stands as a tribute to his enduring legacy.

Focus On Preparedness

The minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges through a vigilant and well-prepared military. With its strategic training facilities and emphasis on readiness, Mhow cantonment continues to play a significant role in bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities.

Singh’s address served as a reminder of the armed forces’ critical responsibility in ensuring national security amid evolving threats, both at the borders and within.
