Telangana Police, in collaboration with industry and academia, has launched a pioneering initiative in India known as the Law Enforcement CISO (Chief Information Security Officers) Council. The Director General of Police, Anjani Kumar, expressed concerns about the increasing prevalence of cyber crimes and stressed the need for a proactive approach to cybersecurity. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, underscored the significance of forming partnerships between the public and private sectors and emphasised the importance of sharing intelligence to combat cyber threats. Stephen Raveendra, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, discussed the pressing need to defend digital spaces and safeguard critical infrastructure from cyber threats, especially given the recent targeted attacks during the G20 event in Delhi. Ramesh Kaza, Secretary of SCSC, provided statistics on various cyber threats, including ransomware attacks, password-based attacks, and Business Email Compromise (BEC) attempts. The event also featured contributions from industry experts, including Abhishek Kumar from Microsoft and Ramesh Ganesh from CyberEye, who pledged their support for the initiative and its mission to contain, reduce, and mitigate cyber attacks.

“With a 300% increase in cyber crime cases in the last one year, we need to get our defence strong to tackle online crooks,” said Cyberabad Police Commissioner Stephen Raveendra.
