GHMC Conducts Mock Fire Safety Drills

These drills are scheduled to take place weekly across all six zones of the GHMC, with the participation of SFO and DRF (Disaster Response Force) teams

In order to tackle the alarming rise in fire accidents across Greater Hyderabad, the Directorate of Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched an awareness programme aimed at conducting emergency evacuation drills. These drills are being carried out in six zones and target key locations like schools, hospitals, shopping malls, office buildings, hotels, and banquet halls where large crowds gather.

A senior fire officer explained, “In these drills, our teams led by the Station Fire Officer (SFO) demonstrate how to effectively escape from fire accidents, evacuate buildings, operate firefighting equipment, administer first-aid, and practice CRR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) to save lives. Additionally, we aim to raise awareness among citizens about the ‘do’s and ‘don’ts’ during emergencies.”

These drills are scheduled to take place weekly across all six zones of the GHMC, with the participation of SFO and DRF (Disaster Response Force) teams.

This week, DRF teams conducted mock evacuation drills at five locations, including D Mart Supermarket in Miyapur, Chennai Shopping Mall at SD Road in Secunderabad, Narayani Shopping Mall on Rambag Road in Attapur, Chennai Silks at Kukatpally Y junction, and Sri Laxmi White House Textile Market in Kothapet.

In addition to the drills, the DRF teams organized 58 awareness programmes across 32 public places, including 15 shopping malls/showrooms, seven schools/colleges, and four hostels/apartments.

Owners or managements of establishments such as schools, hospitals, and shopping malls interested in conducting evacuation drills can reach out to the EV&DM helpline at 040-29555500 or via mobile at 9000113667. The helpline numbers can also be utilized to report unauthorised or illegal storage of hazardous chemicals/materials in residential buildings, as highlighted by EV&DM.
