The Fight Back event presents a unique opportunity for retailers, security professionals, and law enforcement agencies to build stronger connections
The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) and its members are backing the **Fight Back** initiative, a community-driven effort that brings together local retailers, police, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), and security providers to combat retail crime. Following the success of events in Reading and High Wycombe, the initiative is expanding its reach, aiming to strengthen local partnerships and promote proactive crime prevention strategies.
With retail crime on the rise, including incidents of shoplifting, stock loss, and assaults on staff, the Fight Back initiative seeks to equip communities with the knowledge and tools to safeguard their businesses. The event is designed to go beyond security product demonstrations, fostering collaboration between stakeholders and encouraging long-term solutions to crime prevention.
Attendees explore a range of security measures such as fog generators, CCTV, noise deterrents, DNA sprays, and remote monitoring while also engaging with local police officials who share insights on tackling offenders. The initiative promotes a shift from a **reactive** to a proactive approach, helping businesses and communities take control of their safety.
Strengthening Local Networks
The Fight Back event presents a unique opportunity for retailers, security professionals, and law enforcement agencies to build stronger connections. By uniting communities, the initiative aims to create a coordinated front against crime , ensuring safer environments for businesses, staff, and customers.
Thames Valley Police Commander, Steve Raffield , underscored the importance of such collaborations. “This event is about all of us coming together in collaboration to create safer environments for retailers whilst ensuring that we, the police, have the best opportunity to disrupt and pursue those who choose to steal or use violence.”
The initiative also highlights **BID-led security measures**, such as business wardens, investments in CCTV, and the **DISC barring system**, which helps restrict offenders from retail spaces. BID Manager **Alexa Volker** noted that such measures have already played a significant role in reducing retail losses and improving community safety.
Call To Action For Communities
Unlike national security conferences that may not always reach local businesses, **Fight Back** provides a **targeted, community-focused approach**. This free **two-hour session** offers participants practical insights into local security challenges, introduces them to key contacts in crime prevention, and showcases cost-effective ways to enhance security.
By equipping retailers with advanced security solutions and strengthening cooperation between businesses and law enforcement, the **Fight Back** initiative is taking a stand against retail crime. More than just a showcase of security products, it is a **call to action**—a movement towards safer, crime-resistant communities where offenders are deterred, and businesses can operate with confidence.
