Cannes Trials AI Surveillance Cameras Ahead Of Olympics”

While initial concerns were raised regarding potential resource allocation challenges stemming from preparations for the Olympics, Paris authorities have assuaged fears by pledging to dispatch an additional 400 security personnel to Cannes

Thousands of movie enthusiasts, including some of the world’s most renowned film stars, are converging on the picturesque Cote d’Azur for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which is scheduled from Tuesday through May 25. To ensure the safety and security of the massive influx of attendees, local authorities are implementing robust measures, including the deployment of 17 experimental cameras equipped with cutting-edge AI technology.

Mayor David Lisnard underscored the town’s persistent efforts to introduce these surveillance cameras since 2019, with their approval finally coming through due to recent adjustments in surveillance laws spurred by the forthcoming Olympics in Paris. Presently, Cannes boasts the highest concentration of video surveillance in France, with nearly one camera for every 84 residents. Moreover, the town is fortified with 462 emergency call buttons strategically positioned across public spaces and buildings.

While initial concerns were raised regarding potential resource allocation challenges stemming from preparations for the Olympics, Paris authorities have assuaged fears by pledging to dispatch an additional 400 security personnel to Cannes. This significant reinforcement will complement the existing cadre of 200 officers and 66 surveillance agents already stationed in the area. In addition to this official presence, the festival organizers have enlisted the services of 400 security guards to patrol the main venue, the Palais des Festivals. Furthermore, private security agents are deployed to oversee the myriad beachside, villa, and yacht parties, ensuring a comprehensive security blanket throughout the duration of the event.
