This response comes in the wake of a significant escalation when Iran fired approximately 200 missiles targeting Israel’s capital, Tel Aviv, and other areas
India has expressed deep concern over the rapidly escalating conflict in West Asia following Iran’s missile attack on Israel. In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian government emphasized the importance of restraint and called for resolving the situation through dialogue and diplomacy.
“We are deeply concerned at the escalation of the security situation in West Asia and reiterate our call for restraint by all concerned and protection of civilians. It is important that the conflict doesn’t take a wider regional dimension, and we urge that all issues be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy,” the MEA’s statement said.
This response comes in the wake of a significant escalation when Iran fired approximately 200 missiles targeting Israel’s capital, Tel Aviv, and other areas. The strikes mark a dangerous broadening of the Israel-Iran conflict, which initially stemmed from Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This war, which will soon mark its first anniversary on October 7, 2024, now risks engulfing the broader region.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs also expressed concerns about the safety of Indian nationals in Israel. The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has advised the 30,000 Indian citizens residing in Israel—comprising workers, students, and researchers—to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel within the country. The embassy has provided emergency helplines for those in need: +972-547520711 and +972-543278392.
“The embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular touch with Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals,” the notification from the embassy said.
As tensions increase in the region, India’s embassy in Beirut has also issued warnings, advising Indian nationals to leave Lebanon, which has been targeted by Israeli bombings. Additionally, in light of the unfolding situation, India has urged its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran.
In a separate advisory issued on Wednesday, the MEA stated, “Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran. Those currently residing in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.”
The escalation follows Iran’s missile retaliation after Israel reportedly killed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, along with several senior commanders of the militant group. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Iran would “pay” for the missile strikes.
Indian nationals in Israel and Iran have been advised to remain in close contact with their respective embassies for updates and assistance as the situation remains fluid.
As the conflict intensifies, India continues to emphasize diplomacy and peaceful dialogue as the only viable solutions to prevent further regional destabilization.
